With the election set for Wednesday, today is the final day of the campaigning for the candidates vying to become South Korea’s next president.
The two frontrunners will hold their final major rallies in downtown Seoul near the Gwanghwamun area a symbol of South Korean democracy where the country’s now-famous candelight vigil was held and beamed around the world a few years ago.
Lee Jae-myung of the ruling Democratic Party of Korea will hold his at 7 PM, Korea time, at Chunggye Plaza.
The candidate for the main opposition People Power Party, Yoon Suk-yeol, will hold his 90 minutes later at Seoul Plaza located in front of Seoul City Hall.
Both will also be visiting Seoul’s popular university areas to tout their policies to younger voters, a group deemed crucial to win over to stand a chance of emerging victorious.
Under law, all campaigning must cease at midnight, but the candidates are expected to squeeze every last minute out of the final day and hold speeches right up until that time.
