There’s a whole entire person and a set of experiences that can be leveraged to the benefit of the organization.”

One critical step in combating tokenism — and encouraging diversity, equity, and inclusion — is ensuring that employees aren’t called upon to be the lone representative for their entire group. Unfortunately, this happens a lot: Kia Jarmon recalled getting separated from the only other African-American student in the fourth grade; they were placed in separate classrooms to give the appearance of “diversity,” and this has continued to happen to her throughout her career. Companies can help forestall tokenism by making sure there’s more than one person from each demographic in a group.

Furthermore, companies that increase diversity, equity, and inclusion also experience better performance and results.

Reddit may soon turn user’s karma points into ERC20 tokens

According to a newly hired Reddit programmer, the American social media behemoth may soon turn users’ karma points into Ethereum-based (ERC-20) tokens, onboarding 500 million new crypto users in the process.

Rahul, a Reddit programmer, highlighted Reddit’s efforts to boost user interaction through various cryptocurrency initiatives in a series of tweets. Cointelegraph stated in July 2021 that the site had developed Community Points, a layer-2 rollup for its rewards points based on Arbitrum Technology.

Surely there are better ways to monetize than just creating walled gardens. One that is a WIN-WIN.

February is Black History Month, and both Vanderbilt Business and Vanderbilt University have commemorated the month with a variety of programming. Last week, The Wond’ry hosted a panel of eight African-American women business leaders from the Vanderbilt and Nashville communities, including two representatives from the Owen Graduate School of Management: Vice Provost for Inclusive Excellence and Professor of Management Melissa Thomas-Hunt and Director of Admissions Consuela Knox.

Moderated by Dominique Anderson — Program Coordinator for Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion at The Wond’ry — the panelists discussed what diversity and tokenism look like within a business context.

As well as ensuring unsecured payment data never enters your organization’s systems and safeguarding against cybersecurity threats, tokenization helps with PCI compliance and reduces the scope of PCI-DSS audits, saving both cost and time.

Tokenization Vs. Encryption

If you’re familiar with tokenization, you may have also heard of credit card encryption. How is tokenization different from encryption?

When data is encrypted, it is coded into a hidden language, similar to tokenization.
However, encryption uses a mathematical formula which is possible to reverse-engineer, meaning encrypted sequences can be deciphered and risks exposing sensitive information such as credit card data.

Conversely, tokenization turns a meaningful piece of data into a string of random characters that cannot be reversed – so if breached, no meaningful value is exposed.

That’s because it is far too easy to take control of a reddit sub and users can’t do anything about it and if say r/ethereum became r/bitcoin, Conde Nast would not do anything about it.

That has led to huge backlash against reddit and growing public pressure especially amid louder and louder allegations of significant Chinese influenced manipulation and perhaps even censorship with Reddit partially owned by Tencent.

Thus with these points they might be thinking of allowing users to vote in or out the top mod, but that’s probably cover because it’s not clear why these points can’t be manipulated just as karma can, in which case why not just use the karma rather than these points.

Sclerotic Reddit Meets Competition

Tech giants in Silicon Valley are worried.

Reddit engineer, Rahul, highlights the social media platform’s efforts to improve user interaction through various cryptocurrency initiatives.

Diversity means having students or staff from a variety of backgrounds, including ethnicity, race, gender, socioeconomic class, sexual orientation, and nationality. Equity ensures that everyone has equal access to resources (e.g., salaries, networking, and mentors).

As the term indicates, inclusivity means that each member, no matter their background, feels welcomed and valued within the group. Panelists talked about how inclusivity extends to the individual, and that employees shouldn’t feel like they have to leave part of their identities at home when they go to work.

Melissa Thomas-Hunt speaks at the panel.

Consuela Knox sits to her left.

“Organizations give themselves short shrift if they take a very unidimensional perspective,” Thomas-Hunt said.

If the credit card number or account number needs to be billed again in the future (such as for a recurring payment or subscription), the payment system recognizes the token associated with the card, rather than the card number itself.

Credit or debit card tokenization increases trust for organizations and significantly reduces the risk of sensitive data such as cardholder data being exposed.

How does credit card tokenization work?

The tokenization process can take many forms, but it’s useful to consider the following possible scenarios:

1. Ecommerce Payment Tokenization

  1. A customer makes a purchase and uses their credit card to check out (e.g. 1923 1242 4629 2649).
  2. The card number is changed to a random sequence of characters (e.g.

This paved the way for Reddit’s ambitious plan – onboard 500 million Reddit users to Web3 via Ethereum’s Arbitrum L2! Let’s see some more details shared by their crypto engineer Rahul Kothari.

Reddit has 500M monthly active users.

When we all pull this off, we would onboard 500M web2 users into web3 and then there is no going back.

Let me say that again – 500 million new crypto users. WAGMI 🔥

Reddit has something called karma – which is basically an interactive reputation-based points system. Every time somebody thinks that your post is helpful, he can give you a thumbs up, rewarding you with karma.

It’s the same case otherwise.

Currently, 80,000 community points from two subreddits — r/cryptocurrency and r/FortNiteBR — have been moved to the Rinkeby Testnet on the Arbitrum network, which will be scalable for gasless transactions, according to Rahul.

Furthermore, Reddit communities will be able to fork blockchains based on community decisions, enabling the exploration of new monetization models using Web 3.

Reddit has hosted a variety of community-driven crypto initiatives, such as Dogecoin (DOGE) fundraisers, and it continues to serve a large crypto community.

As the progress of payment technology gathers pace, the potential threat to sensitive customer data increases at a similar speed. A particular danger arises with the storing of customer payment details, and it is therefore vital that organizations take appropriate measures to heighten data security and prevent credit card fraud.

If your organization accepts credit card payments, tokenization is one of the most secure ways to protect against loss or theft of customer information. But what exactly is credit card tokenization, how does it work, and what are the benefits?

What is Tokenization?

Tokenization is a data security feature where a sensitive data element or set is effectively replaced (“tokenized”) with a non-sensitive alternative, called a token.

Sometimes it is going to be because of tokenism, but it’s what you bring to it (that matters)…so step into it.”

“People do business with who they know, and who they trust,” Susan Vanderbilt added. “You can’t wait until the opportunities come…you have to build those (relationships) ahead of time.”

However, feeling like a token can be draining on employees, especially if they’re the only (for example) female, African-American, or millennial in their department. Panelists urged listeners to seek support from people who can identify with their struggles so they’re getting replenished outside of the workplace.

“When you don’t have that diversity group or that support that you might need in the job, be sure that you’re getting it outside the job,” Knox said.
